CarbonX for QuEChERS A short video demonstrating the use of United Science’s new product, CarbonX for QuEChERS, and its ability to remove pigments. The method being used here is the AOAC 2007.1 Pigmented method. Spinach is a difficult matrix to deal with, but with CarbonX for QuEChERS you can remove the pigment you don’t want without removing the pesticides you do.
Ok. So you want to cut to the chase and find out what is the big deal. Well, here it is: For QuEChERS: 1. CarbonX materials give high planar pesticide recovery without having to use toluene. So what? Well you can skip many of the steps required for planar pesticide recovery saving both time and money. In addition, you will not have to wait a long time for the toluene to evaporate. 2. CarbonX materials have been shown to remove 50% more matrix [...]
CarbonX for QuEChERS Greatly Improves Planar Pesticide Recovery Currently graphitized carbon black (GCB) is generally used for dispersive solid phase extraction (dSPE) cleanup of pigmented QuEChERS samples. While this product does remove the pigments and sterols found in matrices such as spinach, it also drastically affects the recovery of planar pesticides such as Chlorothalonil, Chloropyrifos, Chloropyrifos-methyl, Folpet, and Coumaphos. The manufactured product CarbonX for QuEChERS, on the other hand, also removes the pigments and sterols during dSPE cleanup while retaining high [...]
CarbonX for QuEChERS Removes 50% More Matrix as Compared to GCB Introduction: Graphitized Carbon Black (GCB) is generally added to QuEChERS dispersive solid phase extraction (dSPE) kits when the food extract is highly pigmented. This is due to the fact that these pigments and sterols cause fouling of the liner and column as well as decreased signal to noise when quantitating samples on GC/MS and LC/MS. United Science is offering a product, CarbonX for QuEChERS, that works similarly to GCB without the [...]
